Gut health is one of my passions. I have suffered from poor digestion and the inevitable consequences of that my whole life. A healthy gut is a supported digestive system with a healthy balance of good and bad bacteria.

Did you know that in our gut we have trillions of microbes collectively known as the “microbiota”?

The scientific study of this Microbiota, is thought to be the most exciting and potentially transformative field in the entire realm of human health and wellness. The Microbiota interacts with our bodies in a number of powerful ways. Justin and Erica Sonnenburg, 2 Leading edge scientists in this field and authors of the book “The Good Gut” argue that it in no small part it determines weather we are sick or healthy, fit or obese, sunny or moody.

The Microbiota has always been with us and has in fact coevolved with humans entwining its functions with ours very deeply over time. In more recent times, because of harmful changes in our diet, antibiotic over use, over sterilisation of our living environments, over use of over the counter medication, extreme stress and increasing cesarean rates, our gut microbiota is facing a “mass extinction event” the consequences of which are dire.
This disruption in our gut is causing our bodies to go haywire and may be behind the mysterious spike in some of our most troubling modern afflictions. Including everything from allergies through to autism, cancer, autoimmune disease, IBS, falling fertility rates, depression and so much more.
However it doesn’t have to be this way, by nourishing our microbiota, correcting other imbalances within the body and making certain dietary and lifestyle changes we can heal and seal our gut and thereby improve our own health. The answer is unique to each of us, and it changes as we age. On a physical level caring for our gut microbes may be the single most important thing we can do for our health.

My passion for health combined with my endless hours of research, has inspired me to share with you here all the best bits of my findings.
This part of my website is where I curate for you, all the info that I have trawled through over the past 30 years of my life. Presenting it in a way that is easy to understand and accessible to all.
It is information from some of the worlds top scientists, functional medicine practitioners, Doctors, Gardeners, Nutritionists, Naturopaths, Parents and simply people who are just passionate about what they do and have an important story to tell in the world of health and wellness.

It is through this deepening understanding of the Microbiota and how its state of health can determine our over all health, that I have changed the way I write recipes, cook and eat.
